Authorities Send Two Chinese Nationals to Court for Bomb Near National Assembly

PHNOM PENH: Two of the five suspects involved in the grenade attack near the National Assembly on 15 December 2022 have been sent to court by the authorities.

Interior Ministry Spokesperson, Khieu Sopheak, confirmed to EAC News on Wednesday morning, 28 December, that two suspects (a Chinese man and a woman) had been charged and sent to court.

EAC News also requested comment from the Spokesperson of the National Police, Chhay Kim Khoeun, however, he declined because the case is still being processed.

Five suspects, four Chinese and one Cambodian, were arrested on suspicion of planting a grenade embedded in a cake near the National Assembly and NagaWorld II in Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh, at 6 AM on 15 December 2022.

The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, Khieu Sopheak, stated earlier that authorities had received a tip that someone driving a Land Rover Defender with Cambodian license plate LC. 9888 had planted a grenade at NagaWorld Park, while a street cleaner also witnessed the incident.

The Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), Heng Ratana, confirmed to EAC News that the explosive hidden in the cake was an F1 grenade made in Russia.
